The feature piece in our program will be the musical story of Pāka’a Lanakila, a little boy living in Hawaii, the music of Pāka’a is composed by Jon Magnussen. The quintet will demonstrate the different musical themes of Pāka’a and also teach the audience American Sign Language (ASL) for each theme. Participants will use these signs to interact with the music throughout the piece as they listen for and identify each theme with the appropriate signs in context.
The Residency by the Chione Quintet, organized in partnership with the Arrowhead Library System and Superior Public Library, has been made possible with support from Chamber Music America through its Residency Endowment Fund.
