Larkspur Reed Trio:
Following their performances at the International Double Reed Society Conference in Boulder Colorado, the trio was formed during a hike in the Rocky Mountains. The trio was walking through a field full of wildflowers (including larkspur) as they began to formulate the ensemble, now the Larkspur Reed Trio.
Short Ensemble Bio
The Larkspur Reed Trio is an ensemble of women who play oboe, English horn, and clarinet. The unique and evolving medium provides an outlet to explore and create new sounds while redefining and rediscovering lesser-known music. Larkspur is committed to collaborating with professionals of all genres and creative outlets, with particular interests in commissioning new pieces and performing works by women artists. Throughout each endeavor, Larkspur aims to reach a wide range of audiences with the hopes of inspiring contemporary and aspiring artists as well as supporters of the arts.
Since the organization’s inception, the ensemble has performed at ClarinetFest in both Denver, Colorado and Dublin, Ireland and they perfomed at the International Double Reed Society Conference in Flagstaff, AZ. The trio has a strong passion for music education working to reach youth around the world through live performance and educational videos. With a grant from the Minnesota Regional Arts Council the trio collaborated with author Alexandra Alessandri and composer Alejandra Odgers to create a brand new musical story with the children’s story Isabel and Her Colores Go To School. The program was performed live in Minnesota libraries and is available at no cost in both English and Spanish on the ensemble’s YouTube page.
